Branch Chipping Services Across West Auckland

Branch Pile Chipping
Piles of branches from your own pruning are chipped by our crew on site, usually in one short visit. Thicker limbs are cut to length first. Leaves, small twigs and green hedge clippings all go through too.
Stack the pile butt-first, all facing the same way and close to where the truck can park, and the job goes much faster.

Chipper and Crew by the Half or Full Day
For larger clean-ups, we bring the chipper and a crew for a half or full day and feed whatever you have cut or pulled out across the section.
This suits weekend projects where you do the cutting and want the waste gone by the end. Have the material cut and stacked before the crew arrives to get the most out of the time.

Storm Debris Chipping
After a storm, our team chips the branches that have come down across lawns, driveways and fences, clearing access first.
Storm wood is often tangled, wet and mixed with fencing wire or debris, which has to be picked out by hand before chipping. Point out anything that is not timber. Wet wood chips fine, but it is heavier to load.

Garden Mulch From Your Own Trees
The chips we make on site can stay as mulch, spread on garden beds, banks or under trees.
Fresh wood chip spread 75 to 100 mm deep holds moisture and smothers weeds. Keep it a hand's width back from tree trunks and house cladding. Fresh chip draws a little nitrogen from the soil surface as it breaks down, so it suits shrubs and trees better than vegetable beds.

Chipping With Mulch Taken Away
If you have nowhere to use the mulch, it leaves with us, blown straight from the chipper into the truck.
That suits tight townhouse sections in New Lynn and Kelston, where there is little garden to spread it on. The truck is loaded as the chipper runs, so the section is clear when the crew leaves. Tell us if access is through a shared driveway, as the truck needs to park close by.

Pest Plants and Kauri Material
Some material should not end up as mulch on your garden, and our crew handles it separately. Seed heads from pest plants such as Phoenix palms are taken away. Clean branches from ordinary garden trees chip normally and can stay.
Tell us if any wood came from near kauri, because soil on roots and stumps can carry the pathogen behind kauri dieback.

What Moves the Price of Branch Chipping
- Volume, measured roughly in trailer or truck loads.
- Branch size. Thick limbs need cutting to length before chipping.
- Stacking. A neat, butt-first pile chips far faster than a tangled heap.
- Distance from where the chipper parks to the pile.
- Whether the mulch stays or leaves.
- Contamination such as wire, rubbish or soil-covered roots.
Green Waste, Mulch and Chipper Safety in West Auckland
Green waste is bulky for its weight. A trailer load of fresh branches shrinks to a fraction of its volume once chipped, and in West Auckland that mulch has a ready use on the sloping sections common across Titirangi and the foothills.
Chipping is also one of the higher-risk parts of tree work. WorkSafe guidance on the safe use of wood chippers sets out the protection needed for operators of hand-fed chippers and expects every operator to be trained and competent. We follow it, and keep the public and pets outside the work zone while the chipper runs.
Around the Waitakere Ranges, what goes into the chipper matters too. Kauri dieback is caused by a soil-borne pathogen, and the National Pest Management Plan for kauri has applied since August 2022. Roots, stumps and anything carrying soil from near kauri are kept out of mulch that will be spread elsewhere.
Pest plants are the other exception. Auckland's Regional Pest Management Plan bans distributing listed pest plants, so seed heads from species such as the Phoenix palm are taken away for disposal.
Carting green waste is the main alternative. Branches have to be cut to fit a trailer, driven to a transfer station and paid for there, and most of the load is air. Chipping on site removes those trips and leaves something you can use. Space decides the rest. Whau packs 81,273 people into 26.8 square kilometres of land at the 2023 Census, about 3,000 per square kilometre, so gardens there are smaller and the chips more often leave on the truck instead of going on the beds.
Chipping is part of every felling and pruning job we take on, and our West Auckland tree specialists leave the mulch behind on those jobs too unless you ask otherwise.
